Welcome to Why Block
When a site doesn’t work properly, Why Block tells you what’s broken and why.
What it can tell you
- Whether something is being blocked, and what that breaks: layout, buttons, videos, images, logins.
- Who blocked it: your browser’s own protection, an extension, or your network (router, DNS service, antivirus or workplace filter).
- When it’s the site itself: server errors, broken security certificates, addresses that don’t exist, or a site that’s down.
- Whether a domain is safe, from many security sources, when you ask.
You don’t need any blockers or special DNS. Why Block works with whatever you have.
What we found in this browser
How to use it
- Pin the button: click the puzzle-piece icon next to the address bar, then the pin next to Why Block.
- When a site isn’t working, click the Why Block button. The badge turns red when blocking is breaking something on the page.
- For more detail, click Open full report. It opens next to the site.
- If the page was already open before you installed Why Block, click Reload & capture first.
Online checks (optional)
Why Block can check failing domains with public DNS to tell whether your network blocks them, and look up a domain’s safety when you ask. Firefox asks for your consent first. Only domain names are sent, never full addresses or page content, and nothing goes to us.
