Why Block

Is uBlock Origin breaking a site?

uBlock Origin blocks ads, trackers and malware domains using filter lists. Lists are written to avoid breaking sites, but with dozens of them enabled, something occasionally takes out a video player, a CAPTCHA or a site’s own scripts.

Updated November 2026. Menus move around between versions: if a label is a little different, look for the closest match.

Quick test

  1. Click the uBlock Origin toolbar icon.
  2. Press the large power button. That turns uBlock Origin off for this site only.
  3. Reload. If the page works, uBlock Origin was the cause. Press the power button again to turn it back on, then find the specific block below.

Find exactly what it blocked

  1. In the uBlock Origin popup, open the logger (the list icon).
  2. Reload the broken page with the logger open.
  3. Blocked requests are highlighted. Each row shows the domain, the filter that matched, and the list it came from.
  4. Look for the domain behind the broken feature: a video host, recaptcha or hcaptcha, a payment provider, a comments service, or one of the site’s own subdomains.

Allow just that, not the whole site
