Site blocked by NextDNS?
NextDNS blocks ads, trackers and threats by refusing to look up blocked domains. Every app and browser on the device is affected, and the browser can only say the site “couldn’t be found”.
Updated November 2026. Menus move around between versions: if a label is a little different, look for the closest match.
Signs it’s NextDNS
- Errors like
DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAINorERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED, or parts of a page missing in every browser. - Links in emails or shopping sites that go nowhere (tracking and affiliate links are often blocked).
- It works on another network, or with NextDNS turned off on the device.
Find what blocked it
- Sign in at
my.nextdns.ioand open your configuration’s Logs tab. Logging must be on (under Settings). - Reload the broken page, then show blocked queries only.
- Blocked entries show the reason: which blocklist, or which Security, Privacy or Parental Control setting.
Allow it
- One domain: add it on the Allowlist tab. An entry for
example.comalso covers its subdomains. - Broken email or shopping links: the Privacy tab has an option to allow affiliate & tracking links.
- Brand-new or unusual sites: Security settings such as blocking newly registered domains or parked domains can catch legitimate sites. Turn the setting off if it keeps happening.
- A blocklist that breaks too much: remove it on the Privacy tab. Many people do fine with one or two well-maintained lists.
- Devices cache DNS for a short time. Restart the browser if it still fails after a minute.
Good to know
- If your browser’s own “Secure DNS” uses a different provider, NextDNS may not apply in that browser at all.
- NextDNS can also block “disguised” trackers that hide behind the site’s own subdomain. If a site’s own subdomain is blocked, that’s usually why.
